“Velveteen: The Real Girl Short Fiction Collection: A Short Fiction Collection, By: Velveteen” is the story of a young Woman who travels back in time to 1983 San Francisco, where she descends into the seedy underground circuit. She subsequently triumphs over her "Manager” (Lil Boochie), as well as the symbolic representation of Pure Evil embodied in the character Jackie_drew. In the end, Velveteen goes on to find Love and Redemption at an eponymously-named Chicken Sandwich Restaurant.

By Diane Forte Congratulations to the Barnstable High speech team! BHS won the first place sweepstakes trophy at the Masconomet Regional Snow Speech Festival last Saturday at Masconomet. Jim Frangione was presented the trophy for their selection, "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown." The following students will attend the state preliminary competition on March 10. If successful there, they will proceed to the state finals si UMass on March 31. To reach the finals each competitor must score an average of 85 points per round. The following students will represent Barnstable High in state competition: Prose Reading, Ray Goulet; Poetry Reading, Mary Beth Warren, Bob Bertoni; Play Reading, Ann McCMonnell, Roy Richard; Radio Broadcasting, Rick Davis, Paul Geick; Girls' Extemporaneous, Diane Forte, Joanne Beattie; Boy's Extemporaneous, Jim Hobert, Jim Johnson; Original Oratory, Cathy Kennedy, Jennie Hatfield; Oratorical Interpretation, Dick Patterson, Marcus Bruce; Group Discussion, Chris Maher, Mike Bourbeau; Children's Prose Interpretation, Peggy Hall, John Forte; Serious Interpretation, Susanne Norman, Laurie Crosby; Humorous Interpretation, Frank Mehatfey, Jim Frangione. Rehearsals have started for "South Pacific". Every Wednesday night, all singing participants will meet for music rehearsal. Drama rehearsals start in March. It was stressed by Mrs. John Hagon at the first rehearsal, that anyone not working up to their full capacity could easily be replaced, and that their parts were only temporary. She mentioned that 60 girls had been turned down at try-outs.
