“Velveteen: The Real Girl Short Fiction Collection: A Short Fiction Collection, By: Velveteen” is the story of a young Woman who travels back in time to 1983 San Francisco, where she descends into the seedy underground circuit. She subsequently triumphs over her "Manager” (Lil Boochie), as well as the symbolic representation of Pure Evil embodied in the character Jackie_drew. In the end, Velveteen goes on to find Love and Redemption at an eponymously-named Chicken Sandwich Restaurant.

RESCUE ACTIVITY Firemen of the Barnstable department were called out to extinguish a grass fire across from Nemec's In Barnstable Saturday morning. The rescue squad transported Miss Alice Gallagher from her Rendezvous Lane home to Cape Cod Hospital after a fall in which she Injured her hip on Friday. Also requiring transportation to (he hospital this past week were Mrs. William Peak and Mrs. Basil Edwards Br.

UNITARIAN CHURCH The Unity Club of the Unitarian Church is having its annual dinner meeting and election on May

Mrs. Winfield Twombly r eturned to her home In Cummaquid Sunday after a visit in St. Louis. Clyde Brennan's mother arrived this week from Fltzwilliam, N.H., for a stay with her son In Cummaquid. Though still in Intensive care at a Boston hospital, Jan Brennan Is reported to be Improving. Mrs. Edward Long of Edwardsvllle, 111., is visiting with her sonin-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. John Owen, in West Barnstable. Mr. and Mrs. William Ogden Jr. have enjoyed a vacation In Bermuda and are now back at their Barnstable home. Young Bob Watters, formerly of Cummaquid, is having a month's leave from service and expects to be heading for Viet Nam in the near future. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Crocker Jr. are now in their new home on Willow St., West Barnstable. Mrs. Crocker is the former Denise Donovan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George F. Donovan of Brockton. The young people were married recently at St. Edward's Church in Brockton, with a honeymoon following In Washington. Chief J. Harold Williams of Barnstable returned this week from a two-week trip to Minnesota where he delivered 12 addresses in the St. Paul area in behalf of the Boy Scouts of America. HALL NICHOLS Should health and welfare services be supported mainly through taxes or by voluntary giving? Does the taxpayer have a voice in how agencies are being run? These questions will be discussed at the Community Council Health Institute May 31 at Wychmere Harbor Club in Harwlchport. Speaking for the volunt a r y agencies will be Hall Nichols of Falmouth, 1967 United Fund campaign chairman. A graduate of Harvard and of MIT, Mr. Nichols has had 29 years of experience in State service. Prior to his retirement he was the Director of Building Construction for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Tax-supported agencies will be represented by Dr. Benjamin Sachs, director of the State's Southeastern District health office, and formerly health director for the City of Cambridge. Other speakers will be Dr. Leona Baumgartner of Harvard Medical School, Dr. Leon Sternfeld of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, Dr. Norman Starosta of Falmouth, and Mrs. Rachel Pentl of Wareham. The all-day Health Institute is being chaired by Miss Mary Susich, Barnstable County Health Officer.
