Fishing has taken a new lease on life this past week.
With the weather warming, up the trout, perch, pickerel and bass have decided to hit.
Stripers have been taken all along the coast from Woods Hole to Sandwich.
STRIPERS MAKING THE NEWS
Striped bass fishing has picked..p considerably during the pas*, warm spell and anglers from Falmouth report good luck in the numerous bays as well as outside.
Popponesset and Shoestring Bays are giving up fine fish.
Dowse's Point has been yielding beauties and Craigville Beach fishermen have taken a few,
Bass River and ( the lower Cape have also yielded i some good fish.
Pleasant Bay anglers have been happy of late taking mostly schoolie-size fish with some ten pounders.
SURF CASTERS DOING WELL
Surf casters from Truro to Chatham have been doing very well.
Wellfleet Harbor hasn't had peak fishing yet, but it is expected to arrive any day now.
The fellows report that Dennis shores are providing excellent fishing while off Sandy Neck and Barnstable Harbor it's been good.
The Canal is finally giving up some stripers.
It should pick up there soon with all the herring around and stripers all along the bay.
WHAT TAKES THEM
Stripers are fickle—they will take one thing today and refuse it tomorrow.
The fish are everywhere, I but it is up to the fisherman to find out what they are hitting at 'He time, tide and place.
Up Falmouth way where herring have been along the bays, the anglers have been using herring.
Where the fish have been off shore, they have used feathered jigs.
Around Shoestring Bay the fellows have found plugs the best takers and Popponesset Bay has been an especially good plug spot.
Around Dowse's Point and Craigville it has been anything from cut bait to lures, so you just take your choice.
Plugs, worms fished on the bottom and a combination of tin and worms have been the takers at Nauset, Cahoon's Hollow and Newcomb's Hollow.
Worms appear to be best down in the lower Cape area, while up in the Barnstable Harbor and Sandy Neck sections the old reliable Tony Acetta and pork rind seems to be the top taker.
At Dennis the Ballerina, Kastmaster and Spin Atom have proven themselves, and old favorite herring takes them at the Canal.
HOOK AND LINE
Marilyn Smith took iive schoolies off Harwich and Phil Ryan has been having good luck with schoolies.
Stripers have been hitting for Othel Curtis off Shoestring and Popponesset Bays using plugs.
Dennis has yielded some nice stripers for David Sears while up Falmouth way Bob Schroeder, Don Blair, Armand Ortins and John Cookson have been taking some fine bass.
Among the thirty that they took were six going around 10 pounds.
They were fishing from Schroeder's boat using feathered Jigs.

On his first cast Mike Dutra took a 14 pound striper with live herring.

Mike McDonough caught four large rainbows and browns over at Lovell's Pond during the past warm days.
Ed Chase hooked on to two smallmouth bass, four red perch and two pickerel at Wequaquet and Long Pond with a red and white Dardevle,
Four nice trout were taken by Doc Dunne at Lovell's using worms, and I took eight there during the past two days.
Two went 16 inches which were browns and the rest averaged 14.
A rainbow and a brookle were In the total.
I used Bakers Tab and Dardfevles.
Lovell's also proved a good spot for Walter Jacobson who landed a couple of nice trout using flies a evening or so back.
Over at Spectacle Pond Bill Kelley took a two-pound trout.
FOR A FISHING THRILL
Vernon Morgan told me that he has been taking some stripers lately from Bass River with his five and one half ounce flyrod using streamer files.
He says it's a lot of fun and they really give you a. real battle on the flyrod.
