Barnstable's entry in the Regional Drama Festival missed winning by seconds. "The Brute" was 55 seconds over the allowed time limit. As a result the two winners qualifying for the state competition will be West Bridgewater and Nauset. They will go on to the state semi-finals in Boston on Saturday. The Festival, held at Nauset, was attended by seven schools. The other schools were: Falmouth, Cardinal Spellman, Bishop Connolly, and Sacred Heart Although Barnstable didn't win, it did get recognition. Rick Depamphilis and; Keith Smith, part of the cast which also included Judy Wahlstedt, each received Best Actor awards.

Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, was recognized by the American Humane Association at its annual meeting for outstanding service and dedication to the care and welfare of children.
